Deanna Barnert: Chandler Massey Is Ready to Play Gay in Daytime

Chandler Massey's Will is having a tough time since he spotted his mom doing the nasty with EJ again on Days of our Lives. It certainly isn't easy being Sami's son -- and it won't be any easier coming out as Sami's gay son. Keeping mum about the worst kept secret in daytime? Massey admits that wasn't easy either!

Rumor has it Will will come out by the time the ball drops on 2012, but Salem may actually have a bit more time than that to build to the reveals. One thing's for sure: While Massey still can't get too specific about the storyline, he's clearly enjoying the ride.

What can we expect from your big storyline?

It's not just my big story. It affects everybody. You can expect, obviously, Will to come out of the closet. I can say that much. (laughs) It's a story that everybody -- the actors, the writers -- is taking seriously. We're giving a ton of time and effort. It's going to unfold slowly, because we want to be as realistic as possible, because coming to terms with who you are and your sexuality is not something that happens overnight. It takes time. It's not one of those things where, "Oh, some other soaps are doing gay storylines, it's popular, it's on Glee, so we're just going to do it." It's a meaningful story that's very relevant today. You can expect some good stuff.

When Sonny was first brought into the fold, everyone assumed he was going to be the guy Will came out for. Is that how it goes down?

We didn't want to go the stereotypical, cheesy route. Just because two guys are homosexual and happen to be the only two homosexuals on-screen doesn't mean they're going to be like, "Oh yeah, let's get together!" It doesn't always happen like that. Another beautiful thing about this storyline is the platonic friendship between Will and Sonny. It's interesting and unique, and definitely enriches the storyline.

Is coming out going to be a difficult process for Will?

It's going to be very difficult. No one lives in a vacuum and if you go back through his family history, first of all, his mom's obviously very straight and had multiple male partners and his dad, too. He's grown up and sees "man being with woman." That's what someone like him would come to expect from himself, so when he doesn't feel like he thinks he should, it's going to cause some problems. Mostly, it's because of the people he cares about and loves. He's basically afraid of how they will react.

Did you have any concerns about playing this story?

Personally, I was thrilled when they told me back in February. Yes, I've known since February, but obviously I wasn't allowed to say anything. I'm honored to be part of this storyline, which is important and relevant today. It's a creative challenge to me, because I get to play something very different than who I am.

Are you saying you're normally a ladies' man and a player?

Yeah, exactly. (laughs) The reaction so far has been very positive. I'm sure there will be people who don't see eye to eye with everybody else, but it's a story that needs to be told and if they don't like it... um... they don't have to watch. They can fast forward through those parts, but it's not just a "Oh this guy is gay" story: It's about a real person going through a real emotional rollercoaster. It's incredibly well written. I can't wait for everyone to see what's coming.

Buyer's Remorse: How Much Has the F-22 Really Cost? [Airplanes]

The 196th and final F-22 Raptor has rolled out of Lockheed Martin's factory in Marietta, Georgia. That means yesterday marked an end to more than 14 years of production for what's widely considered the most fearsome jet fighter in history. And also one of the costliest. More »

Swype won't initially be available on Ice Cream Sandwich, but it's in the works

Swipers won't be swiping on Ice Cream Sandwich... at least, not for a while. Swype tweeted the above message, indicating that the third-party keyboard company has its work cut out for it. It appears that Android changed things up this time around, including the way it reports screen resolution -- a crucial element to a keyboard, which naturally would cause a company like Swype a little bit of grief. No timeframe for availability has been set, but don't panic if you have to stick with the stock 'board on your brand new Galaxy Nexus for a spell.

IMF chief warns no country immune from crisis (Reuters)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) ? No country is immune from an "escalating" euro zone crisis and each one must act to head off the risk of a global depression, the head of the International Monetary Fund said on Thursday.

IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde, speaking at the U.S. State Department, said the outlook for the world economy is

"quite gloomy" and warned that failure to act collectively could lead to protectionism and isolation reminiscent of the 1930s depression.

"There is no economy in the world, whether low-income countries, emerging markets, middle-income countries or super-advanced economies that will be immune to the crisis that we see not only unfolding but escalating," Lagarde cautioned.

"It is not a crisis that will be resolved by one group of countries taking action. It is going to be hopefully resolved by all countries, all regions, all categories of countries actually taking action."

The IMF has warned that it is likely to cut its 2012 growth projections, with the economy struggling with a worsening two-year euro zone debt crisis and sluggish U.S. growth. There are also signs from falling Chinese factory output that manufacturers are struggling with waning global demand and tighter credit conditions.

European leaders last week agreed to lend up to 200 billion euros ($259.95 billion) to the IMF to help struggling euro zone states and are hoping non-European countries will also step in with loans provided through the global lender to help.

The IMF is currently in talks with member countries on providing additional resources to the Fund.

Lagarde said global economic leaders now needed to take a holistic approach toward addressing systemic weaknesses, such as those underscored by the current euro zone debt crisis.

"It is going to require efforts, it is going to require adjustment, and clearly it is going to have to start from the core of the crisis at the moment, which is obviously the European countries and in particular the countries of the euro zone," Lagarde said.

She cautioned, however, that democratic government processes often made quick fixes difficult, saying the collision of market expectations with political reality must be resolved.

"It is really that Gordian Knot that needs to be cracked, that needs to be addressed as collectively as possible, starting with those at the center but with the support of the international community probably channeled through the IMF," she said.

Lagarde noted some relative bright spots in the economies of Asia and Latin America, which she said had taken steps, with IMF help, during crises in the 1980s and 1990s to address weaknesses in their banking systems and financial regulatory frameworks.

"All those challenges that they faced in the days of the Asian crisis, of the Latin American crisis have now served them well," Lagarde said.

Double bombing kills 2 in northern Iraq (AP)

BAGHDAD ? Iraqi officials say a double bombing in northern Iraq has killed at least two people and wounding dozens.

Police and hospital officials in Tal Afar say a parked car bomb first went off in the western part of the city, causing no casualties. As people gathered at the scene, a truck packed with explosives blew up nearby, tearing through the crowd.

The officials say at least 29 people were wounded in Wednesday's blast.

Tal Afar is 260 miles (420 kilometers) northwest of Baghdad.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media.

The violence came the same day that President Barack Obama met with troops in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, to honor their service in Iraq as U.S. forces depart the country.

Poll: Americans want to dine with Aniston, Pitt

Actress Jennifer Aniston and her ex-husband Brad Pitt would be the preferred guests at a holiday meal for many Americans, along with the Duchess of Cambridge.

Aniston, the former "Friends" star, topped the list with 30 percent in the survey that asked Americans which celebrity they would like to sit next to at a holiday meal.

Pitt polled third with 16 percent, while the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, came in second with 21 percent.

Actors Charlie Sheen and Ashton Kutcher and reality television star Kim Kardashian rounded out the top choices.

But when it came to party guests, food doyenne Rachel Ray was the person chosen by 31 percent of people, followed by late night talk show host Jay Leno, who was a distant second at 17 percent.

Celebrity chef Paula Deen was named as the cook most people wanted to prepare their holiday meal. Cantankerous chef Gordon Ramsey came in second, while Martha Stewart was third.

The poll, conducted by retailer HomeGoods, questioned 1,008 Americans in an online survey in October.
