India crude oil to jump on inventory concerns

Last Updated : January 03, 2012 13:40

Oil rose after Iran said it had test-fired two long-range missiles, a display of military muscle flexing in the face of mounting Western pressure over its nuclear programme as international markets were closed crude on MCX traded in the tght range and closed up with +0.54% at 5325.

The move stoked fears of supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, through which 40 percent of world oil is shipped, and pushed U.S. crude up 1.5 percent to around $100.35 a barrel.

Oil climbed in New York after manufacturing activity expanded in China and India and investors bet that further sanctions against Iran will curb supply. The PMI in India rose the most in 6 months in Dec, HSBC said yesterday, and a manufacturing index in China signaled expansion.

In Iran, Deputy Navy Commander told Press that any effort to harm the country?s interests will Lead to ?reciprocal measures.? The US and its allies are increasing pressure on Iran to halt what they say may be a covert nuclear weapons program. Sanctions signed into law by Obama on Dec. 31 aim to deter dealings with the Iranian central bank.

The EU which is considering a ban on oil from Iran, will be ready by Jan. 30 to decide whether to extend sanctions, Michael Mann, a spokesman for the EU, said yesterday.

Now technically market is trading in the range as RSI for 18days is currently indicating 60.72, where as 50DMA is at 5118 and crude is trading above the same and getting support at 5295 and below could see a test of 5265 level, And resistance is now likely to be seen at 5342, a move above could see prices testing 5359.

Trading Ideas:

Crude trading range is 5265-5359.
Crude oil gained on speculation that fuel demand will increase as manufacturing activity expands in China
Iran's recent threats to shut the Strait of Hormuz, added another geopolitical threat to markets
Tehran has threatened to close Strait of Hormuz, through which more than third of daily seaborne crude shipments pass

Say good morning to Jimmy Fallon?s Wake Up Call (Appolicious)

If waking up with Jimmy Fallon sounds appealing to you, you?ll be thrilled to hear that you can. No, the host of ?Late Night? isn?t making house calls ? he?s created Jimmy Fallon?s Wake Up Call to make sure you get out of bed in the morning.

The app for iPhone and iPod Touch offers a smooth GUI for its three clock faces. Its primary function is as an alarm, but there?s a built-in timer, too. I like that you can set multiple alarms at once and that the time of your first alarm is shown in mini on the clock?s face ? that makes it easy to double-check your wake-up call.

When your alarm sounds, your device will ring like you?re getting a phone call ? only this one will be from Fallon. There are 10 ringer styles to choose from, so you should be able to find something that doesn?t drive you crazy first thing in the A.M. To stop the call you?ll need to answer the call or hit snooze. Snooze defaults to five minutes, but you can opt to lengthen it to up to 30 minutes. As a frequent snooze hitter, I like the flexibility of this feature. When you answer the call, you?ll be treated to one of the 17 messages from Fallon. You can set an alarm to have a specific message attached or use random call for luck of the draw.

If you opt to rely on Jimmy Fallon?s Wake Up Call, you?ll want to be sure to use the lock button on the app?s home screen instead of putting your device to sleep. The lock will keep your device turned on and allow you to hear the alarm when it goes off (even if your sound is disabled). If your phone is locked normally or you?re outside of the app, you?ll only be notified via push, which will almost certainly mean you?ll oversleep.

Jimmy Fallon?s Wake Up Call is one of the better clock apps I?ve seen, and fans of the comic should be pleased with the dollar investment.

Kings banish forward Cousins after trade demand (Reuters)

(Reuters) ? The Sacramento Kings have suspended DeMarcus Cousins after the temperamental power forward demanded a trade, the team said on Sunday.

Cousins did not appear for the Kings in their 96-80 victory over the New Orleans Hornets and coach Paul Westphal revealed prior to the game that the player had been sent home.

"DeMarcus Cousins has demanded to be traded. In the best interest of our team as we go forward, he has been directed by me, with the support of management, to stay home from the New Orleans game tonight (Sunday)," Westphal said in a statement.

"When a player continually, aggressively, lets it be known that he is unwilling (or) unable to embrace travelling in the same direction as his team, it cannot be ignored indefinitely."

Sacramento's next game is at Memphis on Tuesday and the team have made no mention on the likelihood of Cousins' availability for that contest.

The Kings selected Cousins as the fifth overall pick in the 2010 draft and while the 21-year-old is clearly a talented prospect, he is viewed as a risk due to a history of clashes with authority and maturity issues.

The 6ft-11in Cousins averaged 14.1 points and 8.7 rebounds during a rookie campaign in which Sacramento won just 24 games. He is averaging 13 points and 11.3 rebounds in four games this season.

Finance minister: eurozone not in danger - The Local

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Sch?uble has struck an optimistic tone for 2012, insisting the eurozone is in no danger of breaking up and that Europe will get its back-breaking debt situation under control.

In an interview with the Handelsblatt newspaper, Sch?uble said the continent?s leaders were ?doing everything possible to prevent a falling apart? of the single currency.

?I think we will be far enough along in the next 12 months that we will have banished the dangers of contagion and will have stabilised the eurozone,? he told the newspaper.

Sch?uble?s positive words come amid increasing concern about the future of Europe and its common currency. Some have questioned whether the continent?s leaders really have the will to institute painful financial reforms deemed necessary in 2012 to maintain economic stability.

Germany, which has had a relatively successful economy compared to its struggling neighbours like Greece, Italy or Spain, has been a voice of fiscal caution over the past months.

It has rejected calls to make the European Central Bank a lender of last resort for countries in crisis, fearing printing new money to purchase government bonds could lead to massive, unsustainable inflation. Instead, it has insisted that financially troubled countries have to institute serious austerity measures.

Sch?uble himself has spoken out strongly against the creation of eurobonds, a scheme to pool countries? bonds, which he said would violate European treaties.

In his Handelsblatt interview, Sch?uble said refinancing European governments? debt next year would prove to be a painful ? but possible necessity.

?If necessary, a somewhat higher interest rate has to be paid for some government bonds,? Sch?uble said.

But he said that might not damage economies. It could, in fact, ?encourage the understanding that we have to attack the actual causes of the crisis: debts that are too high and a lack of competitiveness," he told Handelsblatt.

Sch?uble?s comments may be calculated to counter recent gloominess about the eurozone?s future in some quarters, which has led to unease in financial markets.

In an interview with the populist Bild newspaper earlier this week, one of Chancellor Angela Merkel?s advisors warned that such a euro-zone breakup ?could not be completely excluded.?

Muslim, Christians clash in southern Egypt (AP)

CAIRO ? Around 200 Coptic Christians and Muslims clashed in a southern Egyptian province after a drawing depicting the Prophet Muhammad was posted on a local Christian student's Facebook page.

Troops sealed off several flashpoint villages after angry residents in the province of Assiut, 200 miles (320 kilometers) south of Cairo, burnt seven Coptic homes in reaction to the drawing.

Muslims generally oppose any depiction of the prophet, even favorable, for fear it could lead to idolatry. This particular drawing depicted four women asking the prophet's hand in marriage.

The strife began late Thursday when four homes belonging to relatives of the Coptic student were burned.

Villagers burned another three homes belonging to Copts in nearby villages on Friday. Copts comprise around 10 percent of Egypt's population.
